Trash & Recycling Reminders Print E-mail

  1. All trash must be placed inside the blue toter (cart) provided by Republic. If you consistently have more trash than will fit into your toter, call Republic at 800-234-6881 to request an additional toter.
  2. The lid of your toter must be CLOSED for proper emptying. The toters are picked up by an automated truck which lifts the cart into the air and empties it into a hopper on top of the truck. If the lid is not sitting in the closed position, trash can easily end up on the street instead of in the truck.
  3.  Recycling carts (gray) should be at least 4 feet away from your blue trash toters. As with trash toters, the lid should be sitting in the closed position for proper emptying of the cart.
  4.  Recyclables accepted in the gray carts are limited to the following: aluminum beverage cans; metal (steel) food cans; all plastics marked with a #1 (PETE) or #2 (HDPE) recycling symbol, such as water bottles, pop bottles, sports drink bottles, milk jugs, and detergent bottles; glass bottles and jars; newspapers including inserts; magazines and catalogs; and corrugated cardboard (shipping-type boxes).
  5.  Recyclable Preparation: Empty, rinse, and air-dry containers. Flatten 2-liter soft drink bottles and milk jugs to save space in your cart. Put containers loose into the bin. Please place bundle newspaper and magazines with string (or you can place them into PAPER grocery bags). Corrugated cardboard should be broken down and flattened. Large pieces should be cut down so that they fit loosely into the cart. Please—NO plastic bags of any kind in the recycling cart!
  6.  Heavy trash (items that will not fit into your trash toter) will be accepted. However, you must call 317-823-6881 in advance to arrange this pickup. There is no charge for the first heavy trash item each month. If you have more than that, there is a charge that varies depending on the item. Heavy trash pickup does not include Freon-containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers), automotive parts, and construction/demolition waste.

If you have questions about what can and cannot be placed into the bins, please call Republic services at 317-823-6881.
